In this book, he narrates his harrowing story of the camp life. He observed during his camp life that prisoners died less from lack of food, medicine than lack of hope or meaning.
He mentions that everything can be taken from a man but one thing – to choose one’s attitude on how to respond. The inner freedom can’t be lost.
Having a Why to live enabled them to survive. Don’t live in past but find a future goal. One is easily doomed without a faith in future.
“It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us.”
